“The announcement of the global music publishing partnership between the Avex Music Group (AMGL) and Bruno Mars made a huge splash. Could you talk a bit about what AMGL does? Katsumi Kuroiwa: Broadly speaking, AMGL’s business consists of label business and music publishing. We knew that to make an impact on the American market, first and foremost, we had to make unique creative content. We started out through the song and publishing business, acquiring rights and building a solid system with a strong local presence. Going forward, AMGL is aiming to serve as a bridge that connects Japanese and other Asian artists with the rest of the world. AMGL’s network is home to many excellent songwriters who have created music for diverse artists, from top class global entertainers like Justin Bieber and Drake to groups on the frontlines of K-pop, like ILLIT or LE SSERAFIM.What’s important is that top creators like these have a hub where they can come together and pool their creative output. It’s because of that environment that our artists, like BE:FIRST, ONE OR EIGHT, or XG, can constantly put out world-class music and create truly new music.”

“How are they different? Fujikura: My impression of overseas superfans is that they listen to the same music on repeat and are passionate consumers, buying their favorite artists’ merchandise. Japanese “oshikatsu,” on the other hand, are more focused on the growth of their favorite artists. Together with other fans, they try to boost their favorite artists even further into the spotlight. Simply translating “superfan” as “oshikatsu” doesn’t quite ring true for me. The expression “oshikatsu” is a new one, but the culture of patronage has a long history in Japan. In the worlds of kabuki and sumo, you had patrons who supported their favorite actors or wrestlers. In the Edo era, townsfolk had a culture of buying ukiyo-e prints of actors or tables of sumo rankings. I think of that culture of fan engagement as a form of entertainment, and of communication between fans and artists, or between fans and other fans, has simply changed with the times, becoming today’s “oshikatsu.””

“How about letters as letters? Would it be the letter ‘F’ or the letter F ? @alextr (When did you hit 50k? Congrats man!) I would treat letters as letters the same—italicize, and also usually lowercase, unless you’re referring specifically to a capital letter. It’s also common to pluralize them (and words as words) with an apostrophe —as in, “there are two many e ’s in this sentence”, or “the number of and ’s in this paragraph is cloying”—which you don’t do with any other plural (but it makes sense as a way of avoiding confusions with things like “as” or unutterable things like “ss” or “zs”). But I would also say that this is, to a degree, a matter of choice: it’s standard, and most guides will tell you to use italics , but it’s not quite so essential as italicizing book titles. The important thing is to distinguish these usages from other parts in a sentence, so as to avoid potential confusion over how they’re actually operating within a sentence. Italics are perhaps neater, but quotation marks could still do the job if you prefer.” • Tate Talk #15: Style Guide | Genius

Italics are perhaps neater, but quotation marks could still do the job if you prefer.”

If you’re calling attention to a title, quote or italicize depending on the above rules. Bold should only be used how it is being used in this post – as a marker of different sections of a post; in annotations, I highly doubt this will ever come up. You can replace every instance of the word “bold” with “underlined” in this section and the section still stands.”
